Getting to know our intern: five questions for Marnix

We regularly welcome motivated interns who are eager to immerse themselves in the world of Finance & Treasury! Earlier this year, our newest team member Marnix joined us. Curious about his story and what it’s like to intern at Orchard Finance? Keep reading!

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

I’m Marnix, originally from Bergen op Zoom, and I’ve been living in Utrecht for over four years now. I recently completed my bachelor’s degree in Economics and Business Economics at Utrecht University. Lately, I’ve been trying to stay fit at the gym and occasionally enjoy a round of golf.

What does a typical workday at Orchard Finance look like for you?

I usually start my day by creating a media overview for my colleagues at Orchard. It’s a summary of key news: recent developments, figures, and relevant events in the financial sector. It’s a great way to stay informed myself as well.

After that, no two days are the same. I work on various ad hoc tasks and support ongoing projects. These could include analyses, preparing client presentations, or other substantive assignments. That variety, along with the chance to contribute to real projects, makes the work both interesting and educational.

What’s something surprising you’ve learned since starting your internship?

During the monthly knowledge sessions, colleagues present a real-life case, such as a successfully completed refinancing project led by Orchard Finance. These sessions give me a clear picture of how such a process works from start to finish.

I’ve also been introduced to the world of treasury, something that wasn’t covered in my studies but that I’ve grown to find really interesting and educational.

How do you combine your studies with your internship? Any tips for others?

For me, it’s all about communication and planning. Orchard is very flexible and supportive, making it easy to prioritize my studies. If I need to prepare for exams, it’s no problem to take a day off or adjust my working hours.

My tip? Be open about your schedule and communicate your needs early. There’s often a lot that can be arranged!

What’s a surprising talent or hobby of yours?

I don’t think many people know this about me, but I can get completely immersed in documentaries about World War II. It is a subject I am learning a lot about.

Thanks for the interview, Marnix! Has Marnix’s story sparked your interest?
